Field Trial

We hold one AKC licensed field trial per year, on the third weekend of January. We usually run five stakes --Open Puppy, Open Derby, Open All Age, Open Gun Dog, and Amateur Gun Dog. Our Amateur Gun Dog stake is usually a walking stake, and may be open to all pointing breeds. All other stakes are open to Brittanys only. We typically run between 90 and 115 dogs over a weekend.

Field trials are at the heart of the Brittany fancy. Ours is one of the last sporting breeds to remain a true "dual dog". Many of the dogs you'll see in the show ring one weekend are the same ones you might be able to catch running a field trial on another weekend and this is particularly true in the Western United States. The Brittany has more Dual Champion titles in its ranks than any other sporting breed! A stated purpose of our parent club is to "strive to keep the Brittany forever a dual dog."

We always welcome people who might be new to the sport of field trialing. Participants are more than willing to help new people out with information, the loan of a horse, and plenty of friendly conversation -- about Brittanys, of course!

More information on field trials can be found at the AKC web site: http://www.akc.org/dic/events/perform/index.cfm.
